However I believe that Nvidia is still using Optimus tech. Since I don't know what you have can't speak to a version. The only other issue could be the Intel Integrated Graphic on your cpu.
Make sure you turn off windows update being used as a source to search for drivers and this should work then. I would try to remain offline if you can when installing the drivers for the nvidia.
If you have anything other that showeing you will want to check the files and make sure they are the same version as the dell driver version, which will let you know if windows or an update you installed caused the issue. Go to your device manager and look to see who it says the drivers are from. I don't know how much work it will involve, but I would do a factory reinstall from whatever source they gave you to redo your factory install. Since ncp will not be able to work then with the win driver. Since you just got your laptop, best bet is the drivers from Dell are outdated and when win10 did an auto update and wrote over the drivers you had. The home edition should allow you to disable Win10 from updating your drivers. If you have the Home edition of Win10 then the updates are always automatic, meaning you need the pro version to control the updates. It is a common problem and one that is often overlooked.
There are many urls also that help you prevent windows from updating the driver. I assume windows 10, so it will require you to do some work to remove that driver and sometimes requires you to go back to your factory image/usb drive or other method they used for a factory image in new units. Usually the biggest mistake made that could be causing your problem is, windows update, did you turn off the automatic update feature for drivers. The support site test will not look for issues with Nvida control panel. Restoring sometimes doesn't work when many changes have been made since it was created.ĭell support let me down as they seem to read off of script. When you :"rebooted the laptop to the state it was when I first obtained it" did you do a factory reinstall or reverse changes back in system restore or other program you may have used.
Since I am new I doubt they allow other sites url to be posted in tech support.
If you want to use more current version of Nvida drivers, there are several sites that show you how to do it. It sounds as if some game maybe overwwrote the Dell drivers. If you have any other software that would control your graphics card it can sometimes negate the control panel. What is the version of the drivers you are using? Are they the Dell official drivers or are they from Nvida? When you have Dell drivers they aren't always the most current.
